On 3 June 2006 20.34 pm Parliament of Montenegro, at its extraordinary meeting ratified the results of the referendum and adopted a resolution declaring the independence of the Republic of Montenegro and the Declaration of an independent Republic of Montenegro. This is a formal declaration of independence under international law. On 28 June 2006, Montenegro became the 192nd member of the United Nations.
Prime Minister Milo Djukanović 15th December 2008 during the visit of Paris announced that the country has formally requested to be admitted to the European Union [2].
